My friends and country people,
There are a number of battles being fought at the moment. Vladimir Putin and his invasion of Ukraine mean the triumph of liberal democracy is far from won. Sitting outside in an island in the Indian ocean, there is a view that this is what the west deserves for foreign policy failures. It is difficult to have a clear view on why and what has happened. Even historians disagree.
What has been pushed back is the fact we have a 50:50 of breaching the doomsday threshold of 1.5 degrees. The good news is that tech is teaming up to invest in carbon capture technology. That is taking carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere permanently.
There are also other projects to drive efficiencies in electric motors, the idea of going back to first principles.
Have a lovely day.

The cult of Elon
Everyone on the planet knows who Elon Musk is.
My view has always been, is that he is a complex genius solving problems which need solving, but an arsehole who I don’t have to be friends with.
The tweet fails to show how far the mainstream right has gone as well. My issue is his ownership of “the town square” poses a number of questions.
The way in which he runs companies suggests he is not the fan of free speech he makes himself out to be. Will he review his internal policies?
His approach to US lockdowns and Chinese lockdowns is inconsistent. Will he criticise China or take back his comments?
Is he able to manage his Chinese investments and guarantee free speech?
Should a guy who called someone a pedophile on social media own a social media network?
The ideas industry needs solving and unfortunately what would normally appear to be well reasoned arguments are designed to work with our biases. How do we challenge those biases internally? and how do thought leaders and evangelists work in this scenario.
The Economist has a solution which works
At this moment in time, his acquisition is on hold as they understand the amount of twitter bots (fake accounts) vs real accounts. This is a part of the problem which needs to be fixed.
Whilst we need people like Elon, we don’t need a cult of Elon. As people we get uncomfortable with billionaires owning things, especially those who are divisive. Elon fits the guise of an Ayn Rand hero, a big industrialist, but one who takes government money. But Elon has to contribute.
In last week’s edition, I wrote about the V Taiwan project where stakeholders come together merging expertise and opinion to develop policy. I am playing around with the idea of how of part sponsoring a proof of concept. Email me at nsaccaram@interestingspaces.co if you are interested.
Ways to change Mauritius: Understand what the Seychelles is going through
Seychelles is a model for other countries. The documentary highlights the challenges and solutions:
Coastal erosion affecting turtles nesting
Sea grass meadows being maintained and being an important source of carbon sequestration lasting for thousands of years and absorbing carbon thirty times faster
Use of seaweed for composting.
The President is hands on in his role.
Sustainable fishing
There are ideas here for Mauritius. I have been to the Seychelles and it is how I pictured island life.
Song lyric
I have found myself rediscovering the eighties and it was not as bad as I remember it. Maybe it is nostalgia. One group who stood out were the Pet Shop Boys. Anyway as we understand a bit more around the crypto crash, the song seemed apt.
Building the conversation.
I write these, as an intellectual exercise, trying to understand the world, and it’s need to change. Adrock said once “I’d rather be a hypocrite than the same person forever.”
There is a need to change and a need to practice that change.
