Dear All,
The choice we have is whether to remain silent, complain or offer an alternative.
Wakashio was an eye opener for Mauritius. The video above is in Kreol, and has a political slant as it was made by a political organisation which mobilised the island. As political groups go, they are among the more genuine. The biggest shame that this was not made by MBC, our national broadcaster which does not provide any evidence of how it remains impartial.
Nish
Real Alternative Politics.
I try the alternatives. I put together one and put it out for public commentary, including one aspiring politician and one seasoned one. The feedback was not inspiring.
The tribalism of politics in Mauritius is interesting. After the last election we drove around Triolet (a place which has seen little development over the years compared to Moka) and we saw a party atmosphere, a few years later Triolet High Street remains the same, as well as the facilities.
The continuation of development around Moka would appear to be creating undue advantage, the expansion of the metro to cote d’or would suggest this. The plan for Heritage city, suggested this before.
Sobering and comedic viewing
With a new paper warning of ecological catastrophe, it would seem Mauritius needs not only to start increasing biodiversity but also support efforts to protect our endemic species.
Books having meaning years after reading
“Somebody must have slandered Joseph K., for one morning, without having done anything wrong, he was arrested.”
The Trial
One of Kafka’s best known works, it tells the story of Josef K., a man arrested and prosecuted by a remote, inaccessible authority, with the nature of his crime revealed neither to him nor to the reader.
Sometimes I feel that Mauritius can be like this. It has happened before with someone sharing a satirical picture not of their own making.
