Dear All
I married the most wonderful girl, we are going off in the distance to write newsletters blogs.
During covid we felt powerless, now post covid we can empower ourselves. I look at problem solving from a bottom up approach. There is a problem with the bottom up approach in Mauritius is that out communities are divided along communal lines. I don’t want the <enter name here> federation or the taxi drivers association or the planters association selling their votes for the interests of their groups first. There is a bigger goal and longer term aim here.
Mauritian politics: a numbers game
There is an anecdote of a young man going to a politician asking for money so his girlfriend can have an abortion, the politician assists as the young man represents 900 votes.
When advising a new progressive political party, I asked candidates what their number was? The disappointment was that they could not answer.
State of the Nishaan
Originally this started as a mission in sustainability of self and businesses so achievements.
Recycling and composting for the most part (but we need to get better)
Solar water heating
using electric instead of gas with a view for a renewable electricity future
I have probably read bought a 100 books since the first edition. I have read maybe 60-70. It is not the amount of books, but the action of reading and enjoying it.
I have an operational building, which hopefully next year will become more sustainable.
My life is based around my wife and family (including dogs)
The importance of checklists.
One of the most practical books I have is the Checklist Manifesto by Atul Gawande, a surgeon, a writer and a smart guy. This applies to servicing your car, to flights and even your life.
Every week I write down my aims and missions and a list of things I need to accomplish to move my mission forward.
There are categories

Self
Some areas of government sadly lack this.
Buy the book, understand the context, apply as necessary.
About me
This is where I put annoying descriptors, but simply I like looking at problems, fixing them, and asking questions. Outside of this I love film, music and books. I can be found on twitter and instagram and linkedin.
