78. It was an April morning when they told us we should go
As I turn to you, you smiled at me, How could we say no?
Dear All
True story, I was once accused of being part of the NSS (I had to look this up) by a Mauritian lawyer based in America. He made the comment because I gave him no place to go, he was frustrated. This was on social media, I wonder how the conversations would have played out in real life.
There is a view that the age of social media is ending. Social media has enabled a number of problems and allowed people to connect and create virtual tribes, a problem if the virtual tribe is extremist and wants to establish dominance.
I am listening to all of my music alphabetically and I had forgotten about Led Zeppelin
It is just an insane song. Complex and rich, the lyric alludes to them having to leave the UK to remain tax exiles. John Bonham shows how he was one of the greatest drummers to have played.
Have a great new year

Business
Here are two costs affecting businesses in Mauritius in the new year.
A bigger than expected increase in monthly pay.
An increase in electricity costs.
The first one I have no problem with and have been trying to deal with the cost of living for employees. Announced in late November and live in January is shortsightedness. This affects planning and operational and capital expenditure cycles. Government legislated wage increases should be done six months in advance for businesses to prepare.
Electricity prices are going up by a considerable amount. The CEB looks to be a mess. The CWA regional office just hang up when I phone.
All these costs will be passed on. The small people as they are referred to will suffer again.
2023 does not look good for the global economy according to the macro reports.

Nishal Joyram
The last few weeks have been wedding focused but we have been monitoring the progress of Nishal Joyram, who to my friends outside, went on hunger strike, highlighting the plight of fuel costs being unacceptably high for Mauritians especially in the context of lowering crude prices on the international market. I think/or I hope I talked about how the duty on petrol should be reserved for decarbonising efforts and not extra petrol storage, an intention should be set. Mauritius needs to set a goal of importing less petrol.
Mauritius had a white knight with a pure soul.
He talks about entering parliament, if he goes as an independent he will have my support.
About me
This is where I put annoying descriptors, but simply I like looking at problems, fixing them, and asking questions. Outside of this I love film, music and books. I can be found on twitter and instagram and linkedin.
